“Gas” does not mean maintenance-free
A gas fireplace is wonderfully convenient — flip a switch and you have a fire. But that convenience makes it easy to forget it still needs annual care. Dust and soot collect on the burner and logs, the glass hazes over with a white film, spiders and debris clog the pilot, and the venting can develop draft or blockage problems. Left alone, a neglected gas fireplace lights harder, burns dirtier, and in the worst case vents combustion gases poorly. An annual service keeps it safe, efficient and looking good.
What we do during a gas fireplace tune-up
We clean and inspect the whole system: the burner and pilot assembly, the ceramic logs and their placement, the glass and gasket, the venting, and the gas connections. We check that it lights and shuts off properly, that the flame looks right, and that it is venting the way it should. We also look for anything worn or unsafe — a cracked panel, a failing thermocouple, a loose connection — and tell you plainly what, if anything, needs attention.
Signs your gas fireplace needs service
- It is slow to light, will not stay lit, or the pilot keeps going out
- A white or cloudy film has built up on the glass
- You smell gas, or notice soot, sulfur or a strong odor when it runs
- The flame looks lazy, uneven or more orange and sooty than blue
- It simply has not been serviced in over a year
If you ever smell a strong gas odor, leave the home and call your gas utility or 911 first — then call us. Safety comes before service.
